Once the new year hit I dove right in to the journaling pool. Three, maybe four leagues deep, if each workshop and challenge represents one league in the ocean of handbound books, art journaling and collage. Each one offers a different perspective, adds or enhances unique sets of skills, and sheds more light on an already illumened part of my life.
It's January 6, and at this moment I'm totally immersed in three workshops. Simultaneously. And I'm seriously considering adding a fourth. There are two more also, so it's possible that I could up the number to six.
In the past I've done these one at a time. That's the normal way. But hey--who needs more normal? If the idea is to add new ways to express the unique, maybe there's benefit in adding the unique in a new way. My new way is to delve into related projects all at once. Then every created piece reaps the benefits of multiple information streams.
In case this sounds overwhelming, let me assure you that it is not. I'm finding it easier to do each of the workshops than I ever would have, had I taken them one at a time.
In the end it's always about what to keep and what to throw away. That includes information. While there's benefit in learning everything at the same time, it almost always spoils things to use everything all at once. The key is in the picking and choosing. Mostly choosing what to leave out as opposed to what to put in.
The page above was created for Kelly Kilmer's "Marvel: Your Precious Life" workshop. Books, pages, and spreads from other workshops coming soon.
Fantastic page. I love how you used the color and images. I look forward to seeing what else you are doing on Artdays.
