"Faces" is the theme for today's Arty Girlz challenge. I have no idea what I was thinking while I was creating this piece. It's possible that I had the upcoming Wizard Of OZ challenge in the back of my mind, and was playing out scenes from MGM's rendition of the great OZ of the machine in the Emerald City.
I began it with the face of a person from a magazine which I altered greatly, colored with Marvy and Tombo markers, then cut out and glued onto white cardstock. This was also cut out and glued to a background of black linen cardstock, which had been randomly stamped with Tim Holtz "lines" stamp, in "moonlight white" Brilliance archival pigment ink. The origami butterfly is a recycled Blockbuster Video receipt which was painted on both sides with green acrylic paint and spritzed with home-made green glimmermist, as was the one-inch square piece underneath the Chinese chop, which reads: Long life. The entire piece is backed with a piece of textured chartreuse card.
When I look at the finished piece, I see Fritz Lang's Metropolis (video clip below) trick or treating as OZ in Hong Kong. A bit unusual, but my kids think it's "cool".
Have a great day, Everyone!

I found the movie clip pretty depressing! What did your kids think was cool about it? *g*
Your face is fantastic - I love the angles and the colours. I'm afraid the Wizard of Oz held no appeal for me (sad, aren't I?!), but thanks for thinking of me.... Did I say how much I like that face? Absolutely brilliant!

I really really love your altered magazine face.
I do not understand why I have not had this idea before, with all my years of doodling and magazine addiction and altering books and collage. It's brilliant.
