Thought I'd share my grunged little sketchbook page of next thoughts for the TIF piece. Since Sharon made it clear that "thought" counts, I've been taking the opportunity to slice, dice, and analyze, really thinking each step through before abandoning myself to the next stage of process. Thank you for this, Sharon. The analysis is quite valuable!
This morning I thought about how we communicate through art, and how, just as in writing or speaking, we can be crystal clear or a muddy stream of confusion. I have absolutely no prejudice against muddy streams, however, I do believe that if it's muddy stream you're after, you should be crystal clear in interpreting it! It occurred to me that there are only two viable options for moving my piece further: Line and shade. The shapes, lights and darks, highlights, etc. are all defined. It is a tenuous thing to embellish something already defined. There is the danger of just "sticking it on" for the sake of embellishment, rather than truly enhancing the piece.
So I took a good hard look at my options, line and shade, and scribbled-down a few ways of communicating them in art, and in this piece specifically. These will prime the pump and get my mind working toward further possibilities.
Not very interesting maybe, but blogging process as well as progress is valuable, if only for me.
I find your thought process very interesting. To me, much embellishment looks "stuck on", and so I don't do much myself, tending to go to the other extreme of plainness. I'm working on something now that will have embellishment, and like yours the embellishments will add line, so I was interested in your ideas. Mine have been similar actually, although not formulated so clearly, just floating in the mind. I look forward to seeing where you go with this piece, and I hope you'll post more notes if you make them.
