Every once in a while I get these cravings to make things in 3D with wire. Don't ask me why. I'm not particularly good at it, and it's always a little frustrating in the process. But it is also satisfying and I usually come up with something I like.
Today's Mixed Media Monday theme is "house". I love houses, but I couldn't come up with a house shape that I wanted to work with, so out came the wire and before I knew it, I was on my way to constructing a bird cage.
The bird and the cage base are pieces of cardboard scrap. The bird is Tim Holtz crackle paint on top of gesso, coated with a thin layer of crystal glitter. Wire is from Making Memories. The lace surrounding the cage is a cut-up doily and the cage is lined with a slightly distressed page from a book that's being altered. The bird on the wire is attached to the floor with a puddle of diamond glaze.
The first photo was taken on top of a pink towel and the second on top of a cobalt counter top. I think the color is a little truer in the second one, but the first gives a much clearer view. It's really pretty tiny, 3-3/4" high by 3" in diameter. It will easily fit in the palm of your hand.
Wow this is brilliant. Perfect. Wonderful art-work.
